The Šumava Everest, Wandering the Most Beautiful Hills Around Lake

Do you like challenges? The Šumava Everest is the ultimate one. It is a great project that combines 8 fantastic trips around Lake Lipno into one big challenge.

The principle is simple: buy a summit pass at the info center in Horní Planá. On each of the 8 designated peaks, you will find a “birdhouse” with a unique stamp. If by chance a stamp is missing from the box, don’t worry – just take a photo of yourself at the summit. Bring the photo to the info center in Horní Planá, where they will back-fill the stamp and validate your ascent.

Once you collect all 8 stamps, you have conquered a total altitude of 8,848 meters – the same as Mount Everest. You will then receive a certificate of achievement at the info center.

It is the perfect motivation to discover the charm of the Šumava hills around the Lake Lipno reservoir.

Important change: Knížecí stolec is CLOSED

Many tourists remember that the peak Knížecí stolec was part of the Everest challenge. However, due to the expansion of the Boletice military area, the tourist trail to this summit has been permanently closed since May 1, 2024, and the peak is inaccessible.

The organizers have therefore replaced this destination with a new, equally beautiful place: the Dobrá Voda Lookout Tower just above Horní Planá, which offers one of the best views of Lake Lipno.

Are you planning to conquer the Šumava Everest? Our family accommodation at Lake Lipno has a perfect strategic location. We are located near Horní Planá, so you have 3 of the 8 targets right under your nose:

• Horní Planá ferry: You can easily get the first stamp, for example, with the kids on bikes.
• Dobrá Voda Lookout Tower: The second stamp is right on the hill in Planá, and you can easily collect it during the same trip.
• Olšina Pond: 7.5 km from us. Easily accessible by bike or on foot.

The other peaks (Plechý, Třístoličník, Smrčina, Špičák…) are also easily accessible from our place. And after returning from the hike, a large garden, a pool for refreshment, and our fish restaurant await you to recharge your strength.
