Josef Rosenauer was not just an ordinary engineer. He was born in 1735 and became a visionary who forever changed the face of the Šumava Mountains. His masterpiece – the Schwarzenberg Shipping Canal – made it possible to transport wood from inaccessible forests as far as Vienna and kick-started the economic development of the entire region. The Rosenauer Reservoir was a key element of this daring project.
