Looking for a destination for an easy walk with an absolutely superb view? Try the Lake Viewpoint (Jezerní vyhlídka) near Horní Planá. Although it’s a “mini-lookout,” don’t let its size fool you. It’s the perfect example of: small tower, big views.
It was the very first lookout tower in Horní Planá (built in 2016), later joined by the newer and more famous Dobrá Voda lookout tower. It offers a beautiful view of Lake Lipno and the surroundings of Horní Planá. It’s a lovely 4km walk from our apartments.
What you will see and how to get there?
The viewpoint is only about 8 meters high, so it resembles a sturdy hunting stand more than a tower. However, it is strategically placed on a hill (approx. 805 m above sea level) and the view is truly worth it. You will see Horní Planá in the palm of your hand, Lake Lipno, and the peaks on the other side – such as Vítkův kámen, Smrčina (Hochficht), Hraničník, Plechý (Plöckenstein)…
How to get to it?
- Car + walking: If you are in a hurry, you can park at the end of the street near the industrial area (GK-Mont company) on the outskirts of Horní Planá. From there, it’s just a short walk (approx. 600 m) along the Adalbert Stifter educational trail. From the town square, it’s about 1.3 km.
- On foot from the Apartments (approx. 4 km): From Apartments Nad rybníky, it’s a pleasant walk (or an easy bike trip) that can be managed with children. The path leads through beautiful nature, mostly through the forest, so it cools you down nicely in the heat. From the Lake Viewpoint, you can continue to Horní Planá and return along the water via a nice cycle path.

📍 Where to return after the trip?
After your walk to the Lake Viewpoint, you deserve a place where the whole family can relax. Our comfortable accommodation for families with children at Lake Lipno is an ideal base for such trips.
We offer a large fenced garden, children’s playground, and a saltwater pool in a quiet setting for parents.
And when you want to head out? Lake Lipno has plenty to offer outside the premises: we recommend other trips, cycle paths, beaches with swimming, or perhaps visiting monuments. And in the evening, back to our garden, where the kids continue their adventure and you finally open something cold.
