Dobrá Voda Lookout Tower – views that are worth it Just a few steps from the center of Horní Planá stands the new landmark of the town – the Dobrá Voda Lookout Tower. It was opened in 2021 on the hill of the same name at an altitude of 862 m and immediately became a favorite destination for excursionists.
The 37-meter high metal structure offers two viewing levels, the higher of which is located at a height of about 32 meters. 169 spiral steps will lead you to the top – and the reward is views that are definitely worth it.
From the platform of the lookout tower, a panoramic view opens up to Lake Lipno, the peaks of the Šumava Mountains (Plechý, Smrčina, Třístoličník), the Gratzen Mountains, and the Boletice military area. When the air is like glass, you can see as far as the Alps.

The lookout tower is accessible year-round and free of charge. You can reach it via the blue tourist route from the main square in Horní Planá – the route leads through Stifter Park and past the Church of St. Margaret. The path is approximately 1.5 km long with a climb of about 100 m. The route can be managed with a stroller, but expect some elevation gain.
The project also includes the restoration of the forest park with benches, gazebos, and resting spots. A small viewpoint called “Paraplíčko” (The Little Umbrella) originally stood on the site – today’s modern lookout tower has replaced it with dignity. Its shape resembles a glass carafe and symbolically refers to the traditional glassmaking that had a long history in the region.
