This route is not for the lazy – but those who set out will experience Šumava as it truly is: wild, quiet, and beautiful.

The trip starts at the parking lot in Nová Pec – Láz area, from where you head to the Schwarzenberg Shipping Canal. After a short walk, you will arrive at the aqueduct near Rossbach, a technical monument where the water overcomes the Rossbach stream – definitely worth a look.
From the aqueduct, the path turns left uphill, after about 500 meters turns left again and continues to climb. At the 5th kilometer, you enter the 1st zone of the Šumava National Park, where it is necessary to stick to the marked paths. You pass through a beech forest, which is most beautiful in autumn. The path is lined with small streams and beautifully colored fallen leaves, with mushroom caps peeking out. The surrounding forests are also home to the lynx.
At the 10th kilometer, a sharp right turn and the steepest climb of the entire route awaits you – 1.5 km uphill along the red mark, on a narrow path full of stones and roots. The reward is Smrčina (1333 m) – the highest mountain in the Czech part of the Šumava Mountains. The Austrian peak of Smrčina (Hochficht), which lies just across the border, is another 6 m higher. The cable car of the local ski area ends here.
From here, you will arrive downhill at the viewpoint of the Austrian Klaffer am Hochficht – a rock formation with ladders, ropes, and benches. You continue along the border of Czechia and Austria, where you are accompanied by a boundary stone every step of the way – you cannot get lost.
At the 13th kilometer, you arrive at Hraničník (1280 m) – the place with the best view on the route. From here you can see the meanders of the Vltava, Lake Lipno and the Šumava horizons.
Then just a hop over Studničná (1160 m), saddle (1031 m) and you arrive at Říjiště, where you will find the only refreshment point in the national park. After a short rest, you return to the canal and to the parking lot in Láz, from where you started.
