Take a trip to Vítkův hrádek and enjoy unique panoramic views that you won’t find just anywhere. This trip near Lake Lipno will show you the reservoir and the wide surroundings in the best light during good weather. You will also see the Novohradské Mountains and even the peaks of the Alps.

This historical gem is the highest castle in Bohemia, located at an altitude of 1,053 m and boasting the most extensive preserved residential tower with a so-called donjon. It stands only 7 km from Frymburk, above the picturesque settlement of Sv. Tomáš.

Short Route (1 km, 48 m elevation gain) – short but uphill

This route is ideal if you want a quick trip with a beautiful view and don’t want to walk for many miles. It starts at the parking lot by Bistro Krmelec in Svatý Tomáš.

From there, only 1 km awaits you, but it is a steep climb. It can be managed with a stroller, but it is hard work – we have seen a few strollers there, but it is more for those who are not afraid to push hard.

Bistro Krmelec is a nice place for the start or end of the trip – the food is good and they have famous homemade potato pancakes.

Walking in Summer, Skiing in Winter

There are several ways to reach Vítkův hrádek. The shortest route is ideal for families and for anyone looking for a quick trip with a beautiful view. If you prefer a longer walk, you can follow the yellow hiking trail from Frýdava (6.7 km, 300 m elevation gain); you can easily get to Frýdava by ferry from Frymburk. Another option is the route from Pasečná, which is about 4.2 km in summer, while in winter it becomes a groomed cross‑country ski trail of around 7.7 km.
