The Austrian Ride – A Cycling Trip That Has It All (56 km, 781 m elevation)
An international circuit for the more demanding. Ride along the Schwarzenberg Canal, cross the border into Austria under Hochficht, and return by ferry across Lipno.
A sporty loop for cyclists who enjoy long climbs, quiet roads and riding through the forest. The route is fast, physically demanding and perfect for riders who want a proper workout. No viewpoints, no attractions – just honest riding through the woods and hills around Kleť.
Route Description
We start in Hůrka and head towards Hodňov, where we join cycle route 1254. It leads us through Polná na Šumavě, a quiet area where the road and forest paths follow the edge of the Boletice military zone. Hardly any traffic – a perfect warm‑up.
After Polná we continue to Chvalšiny. Here begins the longest climb of the entire route: the ascent to Kleť, the highest peak of the Blanský les (1084 m). The climb is long but steady, and the whole section runs in forest shade, making it surprisingly pleasant.
At the top we turn around and dive straight into the long, smooth descent to Český Krumlov. One of the nicest downhill sections in the region – fast and flowing.
From Krumlov we continue through Kájov to Hořice, where one last climb awaits: the Hořičák. Short but honest. After that it’s an easy descent to Černá v Pošumaví and the final flat stretch back to Hůrka.
And then? Straight to the Fish Restaurant for a fresh trout. A well‑earned finish after a strong ride.
