Family Lake Lipno cycling route with swimming and a ferry (19.5 km, 50 m) 10+
We have personally tested this route with children. A relaxing ride on the flat along the water, stops for swimming and ice cream, and a ferry return as the highlight.
The Lake Lipno – Vyšší Brod Cycle Path is a short and relaxing route for families with children. It starts at the station in Lipno nad Vltavou and leads along a quality asphalt cycle path along the Vltava river through Loučovice to Vyšší Brod. The profile is predominantly downhill (approx. 150 m ↓), so even smaller children, trailers, and balance bikes can handle the route without trouble.
What awaits you on the way
There are plenty of stops along the way: peaceful meanders of the Vltava, small footbridges, and a playground in Loučovice. A little past the halfway point, the natural monument Devil’s Wall (Čertova stěna) awaits you – a rock reserve with giant boulders and a viewpoint called “Devil’s Pulpit”. It is a great place for a break, where children can romp among the stones and parents can enjoy the view of the Vltava and the surrounding forests.
The destination of the trip is historic Vyšší Brod, where you can stop for ice cream or visit the monastery.
How to get back – comfortably by train
Since returning to Lipno would mean a long climb, we recommend using the comfortable train – the Vyšší Brod – Lipno nad Vltavou line runs regularly and transporting bikes is trouble-free. Just check the timetable and enjoy a relaxing end to the trip.
If you don’t want to return by train with the kids and have the strength for a longer ride, you can easily extend the route from Lipno nad Vltavou to Vyšší Brod and ride the entire Vltava Canyon Cycle Path. This variant continues through Vyšší Brod, Přední Výtoň, and ends with a circular ride through Frymburk. However, there is a demanding climb on this route, which we do not recommend for small children.

📍 What to do with kids after completing the Lake Lipno – Vyšší Brod cycle path?
After a day in the saddle, you deserve a place to put your feet up and recharge. Our family accommodation at Lake Lipno is the ideal base for all cycling trips with children. They certainly won’t be bored – there are plenty of cycle paths, beaches, and other experiences for children nearby. And if you want to take them fishing, just visit the Hůrka trout farm right behind the apartments’ fence, or take them straight to the Fish Restaurant, where everyone will truly enjoy their meal.
