Stožec Cycle Path: Train & Bike (3.9–15 km, 0–16 m ↑)
This cycle route is perfect for families with small children – combine a great train trip with swimming in the Vltava River and a short ride almost on the flat.
A short but varied cycle route that combines an easy ride along the Stožecká cycle path, a section of the Bear Trail and the iconic highlight of the entire Bohemian Forest — the Schwarzenberg Canal tunnel. An ideal trip for cyclists who want to experience a bit of history, forest silence and one honest climb.
Route description
The route starts at the car park in Nová Pec, from where you follow the flat Stožecká cycle path towards Černý Kříž. This section is easy, straight and leads through deep forest along the Vltava River.
In Černý Kříž, turn left onto the Bear Trail. After about one kilometre, you join the Hučínská cycle route 1027 — and this is where the only demanding part of the route begins.
A longer, more challenging climb awaits you, ending at the upper portal of the Schwarzenberg Canal tunnel. This spot is worth a break — it is one of the most interesting technical structures in the Bohemian Forest.
From here, it is only a short ride to Jelení, where you can also see the lower tunnel portal, enjoy a snack and visit the Schwarzenberg Canal exhibition.
From Jelení, a pleasant descent takes you back to Nová Pec — a well‑earned reward after the day’s only climb.
